Nigeria`s Efemena Abogidi becomes the first kid out of Nigeria to join the inaugural class of 12 elite basketball prospects at the newly commissioned NBA Africa Academy in Thies, Senegal.

According to the Vice President and Managing Director of NBA Africa, Amadou Fall, Efe was selected based on his exemplary on-court and off-court skills. In the confirmation letter from the NBA Africa Academy, he stated; `Based on Efe’s standout performance at the recent development camp, and his exemplary on-court and off-court skills, we are pleased to offer him the opportunity to join the very first class at NBA Academy Africa.`

As part of his scholarship, Efe will partake in academic studies, daily basketball training and competition, and holistic athletic development with other elite athletes from all over Africa.

Olumide Oyedeji, former NBA players expressed his delight over the announcement; `This is a very good development for Nigerian basketball and our youth programmes. Efe is a spectacular player and I am happy that NBA Africa has recognised this. He was the Most Valuable Player at one of our basketball camps and he was also part of the Hoops&Read Basketball Team that won the Division One Championship in December 2016. I am certain that he will make the Foundation and the entire country proud.`

The NBA Africa Academy is NBA`s elite training centre in partnership with the Sports For Education and Economic Development (SEED) Project located in Thies. The academy is the NBA`s sixth elite training center around the world but first in Africa.

NBA Africa believes this is truly a unique opportunity for Efe to receive the highest level education and world-class basketball training. We believe so too.
