Better times are ahead for the entire management, players and fans of the Kwara Falcons Basketball Club as the Kwara State Government has announced the complete renovation of the Indoor Sport Complex of the Kwara Stadium. This announcement was made a few weeks ago where the proposed plan was unveiled.
The Indoor Sport Complex which is located within the Kwara State Stadium on Ibrahim Taiwo Road Ilorin is used by many federations for their sporting activities including volleyball, handball, table tennis, badminton and basketball. Kwara Falcons use the indoor arena as their home court for the Premier Basketball League games.
The Chairman of the Kwara State Basketball Association expressed delight on the announcement saying that the project showed that the present administration is indeed committed to the development of sports in the state. `The project will help in the promotion of basketball in the state and will also raise the status of the Kwara Falcons in the premier league. Improvement in infrastructure is very important. We are already working on strategies on generating revenue through ticket sales, increasing fan experience during our home games and improving the quality of our games. These will be implemented as soon as the renovation is done`
The project will include the gym, the bleachers, all the offices, the car park and the immediate surroundings. The sitting capacity will be expanded and obsolete equipment will be replaced with state of the art facilities. The renovation which is expected to gulp around N700m should be completed at the end of 2018.
While the renovation is on, the Falcons will play their home games of the Premier Basketball League at the indoor gym of the University of Ilorin. Secretary of the basketball association, Mr Azeez Bello hopes that the first game of the 2017 PBL season will be played at the State Indoor hall before the renovation starts so the fans can be properly informed.
Once completed, the arena will be one of the best in the Nigerian Premier Basketball League
