Champions, Kano Pillars started their title defense yesterday with an away win against Bauchi Nets. Pillars dominated all four quarters and the host team could not respond to Pillars on both ends of the court. Kano Pillars won with a 20 point margin. The game ended 48 - 68.

In other games from the Savannah Conference, Mark Mentors, Gombe Bulls and Defenders all secured victories over visiting teams. Mark Mentors defeated Plateau Peaks 60 - 48, Gombe Bulls defeated Kada Stars 93 - 69 while The Defenders defeated Niger Potters 66 - 51 

Down south in the Savannah Conference, Customs` Michael Okiki put up spectacular performance in their game against River Hoopers. River Hoopers also known as the Kings Men had a good first half but turnovers, missed shots and an defensive performance by Customs cost them the game. They lost by 11 points as the game ended 60 - 49. Okiki finished with season high 25 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists.


"There was no solution for him today I completely agree with you. It wasn’t Rivers Hoopers vs Customs but Rivers Hoopers vs Michael Okiki. He practically took over the game. For a player who is playing his second season, he played well like a veteran today. I say kudos to him.” Hoopers coach Ogoh Odaudu speaking about Micheal Okiki.

Ovi Shedrack also put up a show for the Nigeria Air-force Rockets with 26 points and 5 rebounds in their victory against host Oluyole Warriors. Warriors` Moses Okpoye, Orji Awusaku and Kelvin Odoh had a combined 50 points but it wasn`t enough to secure the team`s first victory of the season.They lost 77 - 82.

Police Baton secured their first victory of the season as they defeated Delta Force 66- 51 while Hoops & Read recorded their first defeat in the 81 - 73 lose to Kwara Falcons.
