Summarize

According to the qualifiers draws held earlier today in China, Nigeria will play in Group B against Mali, Uganda and Rwanda in preparation for the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

The 16 African countries who will play for the 5 available slots for the continent were grouped into Groups A, B, C and D. The qualifiers will hold in two windows from November 2017 to February 2019. The first window will be for the first round of qualifying games from November 2017 to February 2018 while the second round will be played when the second window opens from September 2018 to February 2019.

The top three countries in each of the four groups will qualify for the second round of qualifiers. These 12 countries will be grouped into two groups of 6. The top two countries from each of these two groups and the best 3rd country will emerge as the 5 countries that will represent the continent at the world cup.

The qualifiers is one of the features of the New FIBA Competition System and Calendar. One of the major objectives is to increase the visibility of the national teams in their home country. Nigeria will play home and away games with all other teams in the group as part of the journey to the World Cup.
