"And with the 20th pick in the 2018 NBA draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves select Josh Okogie from Georgie Tech"

Those were the words of the NBA Commissioner Adam Silver earlier today as he announced the selection of the 6`3 shooting guard.

Okogie joins an elite team of Nigerian basketball players - both born in Nigeria and of Nigerian descent - drafted into the NBA. The elite team includes Hakeem Olajuwon (Rockets/1st Overall/1985), Michael Olowokandi (Clippers/1st overall/1998), Ike Diogu (Warriors/9th Overall/2005), Festus Ezeli (Warriors/30th Overall/2012), Al Farouq Aminu (Clippers/8th Overall/2010), Olumide Oyedeji (Supersonics/42nd overall/2000)

Okogie was not at Barclays Centre when this announcement was made, but he was surrounded by friends and family who erupted into joy at the mention of his name. He called it "the greatest moment of his life".

"I had nothing, God gave me everything"

Chimezie Metu, another Nigerian, was also drafted. He was selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the 49th overall pick.

We wish them the best and we hope to seem them wear the national colours someday.
