After an amazing performance in front of the home fans at just concluded round of the FIBA World Cup African Qualifiers held in Lagos, the captain of the senior men`s basketball team, Ike Diogu made a heartfelt plea to Nigerians to support the national basketball team.

DTigers won all three games played in Lagos to finish top of Group B with a 6-0 unbeaten run. When asked what message he had for Nigerians ahead of the next window, Diogu asked for support.

"Well, for us, we just need everybody`s support. For me personally, I`d like to see the country support us just like they support the Super Eagles. Because we have a chance to do really special things, not only in this next window but in the world championship itself. If there`s one thing I would urge, I would like more of the country to support us because we are doing our best to make you guys proud. And I think you guys will be very pleased with what you see when we do qualify for the world championship"

The second round of qualifiers is scheduled to commence in September where DTigers will play home and away games against Senegal, Cote D`Ivoire, Central Africa Republic, Rwanda, and Mali. The world cup itself is scheduled for China in 2019.

The senior women`s team - DTigress - who are current African champions, will represent the continent on the world stage later this year during the Women`s basketball world cup in Tenerife, Spain.
