The women’s senior basketball team – DTigress – will officially commence preparations towards the 2019 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Tournament as training camp opens tomorrow in Lagos. Ahead of the camp resumption, Head Coach Otis Hughley has invited 15 players to contest for a spot on the final roster.
The invited players are familiar faces from past tournaments – six of the twelves players that won the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket in 2017, and ten of the twelve players that made history in the FIBA Women’s World Cup last year were invited.
The invited players are;
Adaora Elonu (Team Captain)
Jasmine Nwajei
Elo Edeferioka
Promise Amukamara
Aisha Balarabe (nee Mohammed),
Sarah Imovhioh
Ezinne Kalu
Atonye Nyingifa
Sarah Ogoke
Evelyn Akhator
Elizabeth Balogun
Ifunaya Ibekwe
Theresa Onwuka
Victoria Macaulay
Kunaiyi Pallas Akpannah
Understandably, no home-based player was invited to the camp as there have been no league activities so far this year. DTigress will start their title defense on Friday 9th August in Dakar.
