Summarize

To celebrate the memory of her late mother, Afrobasket champion, Evelyn Akhator has set up a not-for-profit organisation called the BENNY A FOUNDATION through which she plans to donate to charity and organise basketball camps for kids.

For Akhator, this became necessary as it was her way of properly appreciating her mother, Benedicta, who died in an accident in January 2013 for all the sacrifice, support and encouragement.

"Although things were a bit tough but my mother was always positive. She would save for weeks to replace my worn out basketball shoes with new ones and sponsor me to basketball camps in other states. She always assured us that tough times don`t last but tough people do"

Akhator shared this during her chat with Latipha "Phatill" Adebayo in The LogBook.

Sadly, Akhator`s mum passed away in the same year Akhator gained admission to play college basketball in the United States.

"The only thing I love more than basketball in this world is my mother. But after losing her in an accident, I folded up my love and channeled it towards basketball"

She has not looked backed since then.

Akhator was drafted into the WNBA as the 3rd overall pick by Dallas Wings in 2017. She has won back to back Afrobasket trophies with the women`s national team in 2017 and 2019, making the Top 5 player list on both occasions. She currently plays pro-basketball in France with Flammes Carolo.
