All is set for the tip off of the 2nd Edition of the Olumide Oyedeji Intercollegiate Basketball Tournament as confirmed today during the technical meeting held today at the board room of the Indoor Sports Hall of the Unilag Sports Complex. 

In the welcome address given by the sponsor of the event, Olumide Oyedeji, he thanked the officials and the Directors of sports for their commitment and their passion of the game. `We welcome the institutions to the competition and we thank the University of Lagos for hosting us. The competition is not only for institutions to play competitive basketball but also for the students to learn proper moral values of life. We therefore expect good behaviour from all participants.`

At the technical meeting, they jerseys were unveiled and presented to respective institutions. The eight instititions that confirmed participation were grouped into Groups A and B as follows;

GROUP A - Federal University of Technology Minna; Ahmadu Bello University Zaria; University of Lagos; and Yaba College of Education.

GROUP B - College of Education Minna; Obafemi Awolowo University Ife; Lead City University Ibadan; and Houdegbe North America University Benin Republic. 

The defending champions, Federal University of Technology Minna will open the competition tomorrow when they play their first game against Ahmadu Bello University by 4pm. The Director of Sport of Federal University of Tech Minna, Seidu Buba expressed confidence in his team; `We can win the title again. We have three experienced players still in the team with new and very energetic young players who are thirsty for glory`

Veteran basketball coach and Head Coach of Ahmadu Bello University, Oliver Babatunde Johnson (Coach OBJ) added; `I am looking forward to an exciting tournament for the youth to express themselves and show the stuff they have trained for all year round.`
